How to Stop Bathroom Pipes from Smelling

It is rather unfortunate that there is often no way to know that there is a problem with your bathroom pipes unless they give off a foul odour. More often than not, pipes may look fine and free-flowing from the outside yet there might be an internal problem that can easily go out of hand if you don’t deal with it right away. It is important to hire a plumbing company to take a look if you are unsure.

Here are some tips that can help you prevent those unwanted smells coming from your bathroom pipes:

Use Hot Vinegar

Some of you probably know that white vinegar can fight off smelly odours but did you know that you can use hot vinegar, too. Yes, hot vinegar is an excellent remedy for cleaning your drains. In fact, this is also a great cleaning product for your coffee maker.

All you have to d is pour equal amounts of water and white vinegar in your coffee maker’s water chamber. Let it run a half brew first before you turn it off. Finish the brew cycle after one hour. Don’t throw away this hot vinegar. Instead, pour this down the drain and let it work its magic in getting rid of those gunky odours coming from your bathroom pipes.

Let Hot Water Do Its Job

Boiling or hot water is yet another great remedy for smelly bathroom pipes. This can help in melting away any hardened dirt that may be the culprit behind the unwanted smells coming from the drains. Even just boiling water is already a powerful method against the mild odours that come from the pipes in your bathroom fitting design.

The best thing here is that you can use any of the leftover boiled water from your food preparation or cooking and simply pour this down the drains. Doing so will help you ensure that fat and grease don’t harden inside the pipes that can lead to clogging.

But, what is even more important here is that since boiling water is nontoxic, this won’t cause damages on your pipes even if these are already weak and old. The next time you boil some pasta, don’t throw away that hot water just yet and put it to good use on your bathroom pipes. Nasty smells can also emanate from your boiler, so it is important to get a boiler repair specialist to take a look if you are facing this issue.

Sprinkle Some Baking Soda

Just so you know, sprinkling some baking soda every now and then down the bathroom pipes can help remove the foul odours coming from them. It is also a great way to ensure that the pipes stay odour-free for as long as possible. Allowing some baking soda to sit in the drain will help absorb the smells and dissipate these instead of escaping into your house.

Baking soda should be sprinkled at least once a week after you wash your dishes. It will also be a good practice to sprinkle baking soda down the pipes before leaving for a vacation.

No one wants to deal with smelly bathroom pipes and no one deserves to be dealing with this problem for a long time. Follow the tips above so you can keep your house smelling fresh and clean all the time.
